Anacamptis pyramidalis is a hardy perennial flowered herb from the family ORCHIDACEAE (ASPARAGALES), with vernacular names of Çam Salebi, Peynircik, Peynir Çiçeği, Yoğurtçuk in Turkish.
"Peynir" means cheese in English and some orchids gives protease enzyme and therefore these plants are used in cheese production to hydrolise milk. English name, Pyramidal Orchid, is orinated from arrangement of hermaphroditic flowers in a compact pyramidal shape, very distinctive.
Its habitat is rocky slopes with maquis and phrygana (garrigue), meadows, grassy open area in forests, and olive gardens. It prefers altitudes of 0-1750 m.
The species ranges in Mediterranean countries, north and central Europe, Russia, Crimea, the Caucasus eastwards to northern and northwestern parts of Iran.
In Turkiye, this orchid is found almost all parts, with exception of inner sides (Central Anatolia) and southeastern dry areas.

The plant grows to a height of 30 cm. Its beautiful flowers bloom in April to June. The dried and ground tuber gives a fine white powder, called "salep". Salep (originated from Turkish:
salep, from Arabic: سحلب saḥlab‎), refers to both the orchid as well as to the salep drink. It is a flour made from grinding the dried tubers of Orchis mascula, O. militaris and related species of orchids, which contain a nutritious starch-like polysaccharide called glucomannan. This is a very nutritious sweet starchlike substance. It is used in drinks, cereals and in making bread. It is also used medicinally in diets for children and convalescents.

My special thanks to Biol. Serdar ASLAN (myosotis) who kindly identified it.

Dedication to my dear friend Alexei Alyokhin (Alex99) who came back after a long time. welcome Alexei

Hi Ahmet,

A superb macro capture of the beautiful flowers with great details! I like the sharpness and POV here with intense natural colors of the flowers. A great contrast can be seen between the colors of the flowers and the green blurry BG.

Very well done!

best regards,
Paras

Hi Ahmet

Orchids are by far my most favourite flowers and I am sure I'm just one of many
people who are of the opinion that orchids are the most exquisite flowers in the
entire world. You have captured a wonderful image of this beautiful inflorescence.
If the plant grows to a height of only 30cm then it must be logical to assume that
the tiny individual flowers probably reach a length in the region of ±10-15mm.
That means this shot must be classed as "macro photography", because the little
flowers in the photo are bigger than life size (1:3).

Great details on the flowers, stunning colours, wonderful complimentary BG and
visually very rewarding.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
