Moustached Warbler
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
TN seems a little quiet these days, everyone out on holiday? :)
This is a Moustached Warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon-TR:Bıyıklı Kamışçın) from Lake Kozanlı, Konya.
There are three subspecies recognised:
A. m. melanopogon (pictured here) breeds from Iberian Peninsula east to Ukraine and W Turkey, as well as NW Africa.
A. m. albiventris breeds in shores of Sea of Azov, lower R Don and Krasnodar area.
A. m. mimicus breeds in S & E Turkey, Iraq, S Russia and N Iran to E Kazakhstan.
It is either a resident, partial migrant or migrant. Birds from N of breeding range in Europe winter around Mediterranean.
The race mimicus is duller and less reddish & more olive above than nominate, also whiter below, which makes it similar to Sedge Warbler (A. schoeniclus).
It breeds in low aquatic vegetation, especially reedbeds, but also rush stands, sedges, bushes and tamarisks.
It is a rather secretive bird but sing out in the open in spring.
Thanks. |

Ciao Kuzey, great capture of nice singing bird, wonderful natural colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
A truly professional capture, Kuzey.
The bird in its singing posture looks beautiful.
TN by and large has been a 'quiet' place for quite some time.
Thanks.
