White Admiral

Turkish Name Hanımeli Kelebeği.

Distribution in Turkey: Northeast Anatolia.

Distribution in the world: Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Asia, West Asia, the Far East.

Living Area: Occurring locally in deciduous forest with honeysuckle undergrowth. Deciduous woodland glades and edges.

Flight time: Mid-May to Mid June in the northwest a month later in the northeast.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Fly honeysuckle-(Lonicera xyloseteum), Common Snowberry-(Symphoricarpos albus) type plants feed.

Description-Notes: Typical locality, Germany. Big butterfly. A very local species. Similar to Southern White Admiral, but lacks the white spot in forewing cell . Hindwing has a double row of black spots in outer half and basal area is bluish gray. The body is white and bluish, but from upside it is black. Sex differences The female is dark brown and the white band is broader than the white band from male. The male is black.

Wingspan: 54-64 mm long.
