Hermit

Turkish Name : Cadı Kelebeği.

Distribution in Turkey: Anywhere in Turkey.

Distribution in the world: All Mediterranean countries South and Middle Europe, Asia Minor, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan and Middle Asia to Afghanistan, Siberia and Northwest China.

Living Area: Altitude of 2000-2500 meters above sea level. Dry, stony slopes and steppes.

Flight time: One generation. Late-May - early-October.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Grasses, especially Festuca spp. plants are fed with.

Description-Notes: This is a summer-autumn butterfly. This is a hot dry habitat specialist. Very large butterfly. Timid, flying fast. Sits on the rocks, rarely on herbaceous plants. Occasionally feeds on flowers. Between the stones would be very well camouflaged. In both sexes, underside of forewing is grayish brown with a wide cream postmedian band that contains two spots; note the blackish bar in the middle of cell and a broad Brown stripe at cell-end Hindwing of male is mottled gray Brown with a whitsh median band and a broken dark Brown basal band while Female’s speckled hindwing lacks any obvious pattern. The larvae live singly and hibernate.

Wingspan: 50-60 mm long.

Endangerment: Threatened with extinction. It is in serious decline in its Northern Europe range for reasons unknown.

Origin of the name: Brizeida (Greek mythology) - the daughter of the king lelegov Brizeya; after the destruction of her home town, her husband's death and the brothers - Prisoner of Achilles, and later - Agamemnon.

I like everything about this shot. The butterfly you chose is certainly a beautiful specimen, and you have captured it perfectly. Detail is tac sharp, composition very eye pleasing and the blurred colorful BG is a real bonus. Great job!!
