Silver Washed Fritillary


Turkish Name: Cengaver Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: Turkey can be seen everywhere. However, this butterfly, the more north and south are seen.

Distribution in the world: Silver-washed Fritillary, from Europe to Asia to live in a vast geography, observed.

Living Area: Above sea level, can be seen up to the heights of 1500 meters. Usually seen in forested areas.

Flight time: June-August months as a single generation flies.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Viola palustris and Viola riviniana develop the type of feeding on plants.

Description-Notes: Large and elegant butterfly. The Silver-washed fritillary butterfly is deep orange with black spots on the upper side of its wings with the male being smaller and paler than the female. The underside is green, and, unlike other fritillaries, has silver streaks instead of silver spots, hence the name silver-washed. Butterfly lays eggs in the trees near the area of violets. Violets own finds the egg of the caterpillar. The wing is greater than the lower, black spots above them. The most important difference between females and males, male, black in color banded wings above them. Caterpillars, winter's sleep lies.

Wingspan: 54-70 mm long.
