Silver-washed Fritillary

Turkish Name : Cengaver Kelebeği.

Distribution in Turkey: Northern and Southern Anatolia.

Distribution in the world: Northern Algeria, Northern Scandinavia, northern Britain and the Iberian peninsula, China, Japan, all over Europe and Asia.

Living Area: Altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, woodland clearings and edges.

Flight time: Mid -June - mid-August .

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, Violets (Viola spp) plants are fed with.

Description-Notes: This is a summer butterfly. Large butterfly. Males are smaller than females. Uppersides of male are bright red-orange, with black spots and swollen black veins in the middle of forewing. Female is duller, with bolder black spots. Forewing underside is pale orange in both sexes and hindwing is greenish with silvery stripes. Black submarginal spots are larger and more rounded than those found on Cardinal. Amount of silver markings varies greatly on underside.

Wingspan:
Male :69 – 76 mm
Female: 73 – 80 mm long.
