I am back from my two trips :) First one week visit on the Greek island Crete and two weeks in the Turkey / Side area.
This turtle is from the river Manavgat captured from the boat in motion. This turtle was resting on the one of the trees on the left side on the way to the Mediterranean sea. River Manavgat or as many call this river "Green river" flows through the town with the same name, originates in the eastern slopes of the Taurus Mountains, passes over hard conglomerated strata, forms the Manavgat Falls, then enters the coastal plain (rendering it rich and fertile) to empty into the Mediterranean Sea. It was really hot day 42C and this river was the place for many animals to drink and rest in the shadows of many trees and cold weather which is hallways round 10C. On the other side Mediterraneans sea was 34C and on the place where river meet the sea was nice place to first swim in the sea and later jump in the river :)
I don't have ID for this turtle and if someone know... please let me know :)
Captured with 5D @ 400mm, hand held. This is the part of the FF which I am going to post as a workshop...

Nice shot of this resting turtle, Ralf.
Details and colours are good.

hi ralf,

well done,
tfs & regards

Hi Ralf,
this is a good shot of Mauremys caspica (Gmelin, 1774) rivulata (Valenciennes, 1833) - Çizgili (=Striped) kaplumbağa [TR], Caspian Pond Turtle [EN]. But some authors divide M. caspica into subspecies, e.g. caspica, rivulata, when some others regard rivulata as a separate species. Shortly, Turkish Akdeniz (Mediterranean) form, M. caspica rivulata or M. rivulata and the nominate form, M. caspica range in Turkish wetland.

Great photo, Ralf! I really like the pose of the turtle and you have managed well from a rolling boat. Seems to be a nice place to visit.... I hope you will show some more photos from there.

Best regards/Bengt Falke
