Spotted flycatcher - Muscicapa striata

Larger than a pied flycatcher, it is grey-brown in colour with an off-white breast, streaked with darker grey and a streaked forehead. They like to perch conspicuously and watch for passing insects, flying out to snap them up, before returning to the perch. Recent dramatic population declines puts the spotted flycatcher high on the Red List.

Where does it live?
They prefer natural habitats, particularly open woodland with ample clearings and prominent perches, but can adapt well to gardens and parks which provide similar feeding opportunities.
Where to see it
During the breeding season spotted flycatchers can be found throughout the UK, although they are scarce in the far north and west and almost absent from Scottish islands. High densities are found from Devon and Kent as far north as the Dornoch Firth. Best looked for along woodland edges and in parks and gardens.
What does it eat?
What does it sound like?
Call is an insistent - 'see tk-tk'; song is a thin and squeaky series of notes.
When to see it
They mainly arrive in May, and leave again in July and August. Passage birds from northern Europe can be seen in September.

Hello Ridvan,
Though a little soft, this is a fine capture of a Spotted Flycatcher. I like the pose, lighting BG and POV. Great composition too.
Well done and TFS!

Hi Ridvan,
Splendid shot of this cute one in its natural environment. Though the image is a bit soft you have captured a fabulous pose. Superb lighting and I like the catch light on its eyes. Excellent POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hola Ridvan,
Bonita imagen con bonitos colores y buenos detalles, saludos

Rıdvan merhaba,
Çok güzel bir poz yakamışsın ama netlikte birazcık sorun. Ps ile biraz daha iyi olabilirdi belki. Selamlar. Mustafa

I like the dappled shadows falling on the bird, Ridvan.
The eye of the bird too is in sharp focus -- a necessary component of a bir picture.
TFS and take care.

There is something dreamy about this shot...there's a softness to the contents but also the way the bird is looking off - as if dreaming of spring. :D

Salam, Ridvan.
A lovely composition.
Great notes.
Its face is focused; however, its back is a bit "soft". Or is it my imagination?
All your work is lovely.
