[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For the time being, this is going to be my last abalone shell post. This is the inner aspect of a mature Pink Abalone, Haliotis corrugata shell, the long axis is approximately 15 cms. Again a denizen of the rocky Pacific littoral/infralittoral zones, and in contrast to the shell of a juvenile which I had posted before, now there is only two gill openings (near the upper-left edge of the shell) and a third was beginning to form on the edge of the still growing shell, the rest have been closed as a result of the maturing process. İnside is richly covered with a colorfully iridescent mother-of-pearl coating, and the huge foot-muscle scar is evident in the middle as a differently pearlized nearly circular area.
To demonstrate the rich iridescence of the mantle coating, I again utilized a single photospot with a diffuser, placed two meters from the lower right side of the shell and some available natural daylight. Again, a dark BG was chosen and later "homogenized" with a little help from Photoshop.

Yine Pasifik'in kayalık littoral/infralittoral bölgelerinin bir sakini; daha önce yüklemiş olduğum genç bir bireydeki durumun aksine, bunda sadece iki solungaç açıklığı var (kavkının sol-üst kenarı yakınında), hala büyümekte olan kavkının kenarındaysa üçüncü bir açıklık oluşmaya başlamış, diğerleriyse olgunlaşma süreci esnasında kapanmışlar. İç kısım renkli/parıltılı zengin bir sedef katmanıyla kaplanmış, dev ayak kası izi ortada, farklı tarzda sedeflenmiş kabaca dairesel bir alan şeklinde belirgin.
Manto kaplamasının zengin parıltılı renklerini ortaya koyabilmek için, yine dağıtıcılı tek bir fotospot kullandım ve kavkının sağ-alt tarafında, 2 m mesafeye yerleştirdim, çekim için doğal gün ışığına da bir dereceye kadar yer verdim. Tercihim yine koyu bir fon oldu ve sonradan biraz Photoshop yardımı ile "homojenize" edildi.

Two things strike me as unusual with this Pink Abalone: this first it the amazing colouration of the mother-of-pearl and secondly the almost round shape. Technically you have one again achieved a fine standard in the photography of this Haliotid.
