Living amidst nature, one can witness interesting natural phenomena easily. While studying in my room at the second floor of our summer house in the woodland, piercing shrieks from the sparrows (house sparrow) in the balcony caught my attention. Though I am used to hearing sparrow chirps, I knew this time something different was going on. When I glanced standing at the door, saw that their noisy reaction was at the sight of their friend, fallen prey to a snake. Actually the scene was a bit creepy for me too. I think the snake came up to the balcony through the ivy. The sparrows couldn’t see me because the door was closed. Of course the first thing I thought of was to take a shot. Since opening of the door would obviously scare them, I took one shot behind the door glass. Then I opened it very very slowly, and took this shot when the snake had the bird in its mouth. Soon, the snake saw me and suddenly released the bird (I don’t know why, maybe because it was necessary to have an empty mouth to defend itself).(Workshop picture) Since I couldn’t follow the unlucky bird in that bustle, don’t know what became of it. I took one more photo of the snake –then without the sparow. Then I watched the snake go away through the ivy the same way–I guess- it came up.

Wanted to share this exciting story as well as the photo.
Best regards…

Hi Fikret,

An amazing story and an even more amazing picture. This is a once in a lifetime event! I hope the sparrow was okay - you just might have saved his life. I don't know what to say about this shot - it's perfect in every way. A fascinating sight and superbly done. Wish I could give 4 smiles.

Hello Fikret,
What an incredible shot, and from your own balcony!! I can imagine snakes sheltering in climbers on warm walls! Fantastic timing and you caught the snake and bird in the best possible pose. Very sharp details and fine colours too. Brilliant work! PS(The climber looks like a Wisteria)
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Both photos are fantastic yet a bit unsettling. I certainly would be hesitant to leave the balcony door open.
Your quick action resulted in wonderful photos with great sharpness, color and exposure.

Hi Fikret

What a fantastic capture both from you and the snake :)
In my opinion, there is nothing creepy about this...it's simply nature's way. It's only normal for snakes to prey on birds sometimes.
I'm actually in fact a bit sorry that he had to let the bird escape. Most snakes do that (and would sometimes even throw-out what they previously eaten) when they are under stress...and i think that was the case here...not to defend itself.
Even so, you photographic merits are excellent and the two shots you got are impeccable!
Very well taken!

Bravo and TFS

Bayram Göçmen'in çok beğeneceğinden eminim. elinize sağlık, iyi akşamlar, selamlar.
