[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My faunistic field trip continue in Gökova Bay, Muğla Province. Today, I made some mammalogical observation, but I took many bird, insect's photographes. Early morning, we visited Kadın Azmağı in Akyaka Town. Some fisherman cleared their fish nets. A Great Cormorant appeared above water near boats on river. It catched fishes underwater in estuary. It also often took died fishes, throwed by fisherman. I took some shots of the cormorant. Unfortunately the sun was shiny across me. In spite of contrast light, I could managed this photograph, when the cormorant catched an Anguilla anguilla L., 1758 (Yılanbalığı [TR], Eel [EN] (Anguilliformes: Anguillidae) from about 5 m in depth.
These fisherman birds are very beautiful animals with green iris of their eyes. There are three species of these birds in Turkiye. These are
** Phalacrocorax carbo L., 1758 - Büyük Karabatak, Karabatak [TR], Great Cormorant [EN],
** Phalacrocorax pygmaeus (Pallas, 1773) - Cüce-, Küçük Karabatak [TR], Pygmy Cormorant [EN],
** Phalacrocorax aristotelis (L., 1758) - Tepeli Karabatak [TR], Common Shag [EN].
All of them belongs to the family Phalacrocoracidae of the order Pelecaniformes, distinguished from other bird orders by the possession of feet with all four toes webbed. Whereas ducks and geese (Anseriformes)'s three toes in front are webbed, rare toe is free.

Un hermoso momento capturado en este bella foto. El gran Cormorant con la Anguila en el pico luce de Maravilla. La foto al raz del nivel del agua le da un valor agregado la presentacion. La nota escrita es muy interesante tambien.

Hello Ahmet,

Great capture for you aswell as the Great Cormorant.
The eel he has caught must be quite a big meal for the bird and I wonder if he did get this slippery guy inside.
Very good note and very nice details.
I personally would have cropped a little of top and the lower side so attention would even be more on the Cormorant and the Eel, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.

What a fine action shot! You are right that the lighting is less than ideal, but it is a good picture anyway. Well worth taking.

At first thanks so much for your kind dedication. I'm a little late, having been not so much on TN because my PC broke down. Finally it is repaired!
Most interesting and original shot. I didn't know that Cormorants are eating anguillas. How do they do to swallow this big creature?
