[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For today's post, I break my Denizli trip. Today [now yesterday], I went to Akkaya Dam Lake located in our university campus. It is about 7 km from my house.
I observed many species and I took their photographes. My shots were mostly for Oxyura leucocephala (Scopoli, 1769) - Dikkuyruk [TR], White-headed Duck [EN] (Anseriformes: Anatidae), which the most important bird species in this area and Akkaya gain "Keybiodiversity Area [Wetland with International Importance]" since O. leucocephala breeds here. But many people, even if some academicians, knows wrongly that the most important bird was Phoenicopterus ruber Linnaeus, 1758 roseus Pallas, 1811 - Filamingo [TR], Greater Flamingo, Flaman [EN] (Phoenicopteriformes: Phoenicopteridae).
In recent years, Akkaya became important area for flamingos. Except for winter season, they feed in this lakelet. Up to now, I have not seen their nests or hatching here, but it must be that they prefer Akkaya, after some big wetlands such as Sultansazlığı [Marsh] National Park, Seyfe Lake, which is an Ramsar area, Tuz Gölü [Salt Lake], Ereğli Marshes dried up or in extinction period. This is my opinion after searching and observation. Flamingos came mid-April for this year. Nowadays their population size is around 650-700 individuals. But their number will arrived more than 2000 ind. in mid-summer after my previous observations.

Ph. ruber is accepted as Caribbean Flamingo by some authors and so, Turkish subspecies roseus is elevated to species level as Phoenicopterus roseus.
Recently, second species of the genus Phoenicopterus Linnaeus, 1758, namely Ph. minor Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1798 was recorded from Turkiye. It was reported from old Ereğli Marshes, which around 100 km from west of Akkaya. Actually, it is an African species and accidental visitor in the our country.

Hello Ahmet!
Yes, this is a very "mobile" picture :) I like a lot moment you presented. Very good quality of picture can be characterized by perfect timing, very good colours, and sharpness. DOF is also good, even is some parts of flamingo's boy are a little out of focus :)

Hi Ahmet,
What a stunning action shot...perfect timing that helped you capture a wonderful bit of action of this flamingo in a diagonal composition. That water being pushed behind by the bird provides a lovely element of motion.
Good lighting and contrasts too.Very well done.
