MERHABA DOSTLARIM,
Again I'm posting a macro study of an unlikely couple, a sponge (Spongia officinalis) and a Spiny Dye Murex (Bolinopsis brandaris) in a close mutualistic-symbiotic relationship, the sponge hitchiking the marine snail, the usual symbiotic partner of which is generally a cnidarian, a sea anemone. Both of these invertebrates are denizens of sublittoral systems of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas, the present closely attached couple was dredged from a sandy-muddy bottom of 10-12 m depth by a beam trawl, between Yeni and Eski Foca - Izmir.
The shell is shown almost from a ventral aspect here, displaying its short but pointed spire with distinct suture lines and short spines, also the wide open aperture with smooth, glossy inner walls bordered by the columella, the visible part of the longitudinal axis of the shell. Anteriorly the aperture tapers down to a long and straight siphonal canal and the apertural lip is typically thickened into a varix, sporting a thickened, strong "tooth" used by the live mollusc to pry open the bivalves which it feeds on. A strong, leathery operculum on the posterior part of the foot closes the apertural opening firmly after the mollusc retracts into the shell in a defensive mode.
Again I used the ambient daylight under open-shade conditions for this study, but I've chosen evening hours to soften the illumination with "warmer" rays, coming from the right side and utilized a white cardboard passive reflector on the left to provide some fill-in light for the posterior part of the shell, which also improved the superficial structure of the sponge, both were again placed over a black BG.

Hello Mehmet,
A superb capture of a Murex shell with an attached Sponge, superbly illuminated with the ambient evening light to produce the desired effects of light and shade. This, coupled with the sharpness and DOF make up a fine image with the shell as the focal point.
Thanks for posting this together with your customary educative note my friend!
Cheers,
Ivan

Ahmet

Merhaba Mehmet hocam,
yine nefis bir kompozisyon sunmuşsunuz bizlere..
emeğinize gözünüze sağlık...

Mehmet Hocam,
Seyir zevki çok yüksek bir kare olmuş.
Ellerinize sağlık.

The couple again indeed. It is worthy of a second or if we consider as in time an hour. Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I did mean 1962. I do not even know my history of 10 92.

Your work continues to be a superior as you are a teacher. You teach well and your students congratulate you to do more and more. Your great knowledge is passed on for many generations. The high quality of your work shows not only in your image but in your passion for what you do and also in that passion you pass on the true love of this work to your students.

Beautiful 'couple', Mehmet.
The shell and the sponge complement each other very well.
The picture is technically outstanding and as a result, the shell looks three-dimensional.
As usual, you note is highly educative and it is a pleasure to learn more and more about this field of study through your unique presentations.
Thanks and regards.

Mehmet friend,
