[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After quite a lengthy absence from TN, I'm back again in Izmir and at my computer, so I can watch again your beautiful and excellent nature takes from all over the World, a pleasure indeed!
My present posting is again on spider or scorpion shells of tropical Indo-Pacific region. In the common Scorpion shell, Lambis scorpius, known from the Strait of Malacca to north Australia and Samoa, the adult shell's outer apertural lip contains some long projections which usually point backwards, the main function of them is to prevent the heavy shell with its inhabitant from sinking into soft, sandy substrates. In this dorsal aspect (a ventral view was also posted before, but of a different individual) the mature shell's relatively short spire is visible at lower right, which is partially engulfed by the posterior part of the large apertural lip extending and spreading from the main body whorl, the rather long projections (all six of them) point backwards, so the live mollusc can move forward (to the left) more easily. In front of the shell, the long siphonal canal (lower left) is quite evident, and above it, just forward to the first lip projection, the "stromboid notch, a characteristic of strombid gastropods, is visible. This notch makes it possible to raise the long "eye stalk while the animal forages on the bottom. The colour and pattern characteristics of the whole shell dorsum provides excellent camouflage on a sandy-pebbly bottom.
To put the accent on the shell's pattern and colouration, thus to reduce unnecessary shadows, the shell was photographed under noon sun with open-shade conditions, over a black BG.

Merhaba Sir,
a very lovely and specially presented capture with the lines and patterns seen in details.
Well positioned in a diagonal style.

Your controlled lighting exposing the minutest details on these curvaceous shells always amaze me! In the process you also bring a slight warm tone! Great work Mehmet :-)

Your shell collection has grown quite large, a great accomplishment.
I like the unique structure you've shown us here, a thing of beauty.
Well done & have a nice weekend!
