Hello my Friends!
The weather in Lodz is not too optimistic last days, so today I would like to show you a picture taken during summer period :> A very nice creature observed during my last trip to Asia Minor :>

This is a roughtail rock agama, hardim, stellion known also sometimes as star lizard (Laudakia stellio) (Reptilia: Agamidae).

And here are, traditionaly, a few basic facts about the hero from the photograph:

Distribution: Southern Greece - Corfu, Cyclades, Cyprus, Southwest Asia, and Northeast Africa.

Habitat: usually rocky habitats (note the stone under the specimen), also next to human houses, eg. on walls. Diurnal species.

Size: up to 40 cm

Taxonomy: species divided into 7 subspecies:
sp. stellio (Linnaeus, 1758)
sp. brachydactyla (Haas, 1951)
sp. cypriaca (Daan, 1967)
sp. daani (Beutler et Fror, 1980)
sp. picea (Parker, 1935)
sp. salehi Werner, 2006
sp. vulgaris (Latreille, 1801)

Etymology: both Latin (stellio) and one of English (stellion) names correspond to the word "stella" which means "star"

Picture was taken in agricultural landscape with some rocky places, near Karatas, SE Turkey.

Many thanks to Bayram who confirmed identification of species, and to whom I would like to dedicate this picture :>

A beautiful agamid lizard within a typical rocky terrain Radomir, captured quite expertly in good focus and perfect exposure to demonstrate the camouflage abilities of the animal rather nicely. A slight increase in contrast and saturation might render the lizard more prominent, but then it might not look this natural and beautiful!
TFS and cheers from Izmir...

Hi Radomir

This Roughtail rock agama looks like it could live up to its name. It really looks rough
and tough with its sturdy body, big head and just look at the size of that hind claws. It
certainly is a well deserved dedication to our friend Bayram. The camouflaging of this
reptile clearly shows that this is a typical rock agama and you captured it well within its
natural environment. You made good use of the fill-in flash and the details are sharp.

Well done and TFS.

PS. I just had to giggle a bit about the "weird" report your camera gave of some of the
technical aspects or this shot. Example:-
Aperture = f/74099368.0
Focal Length = 1111490560/702545935 mm
Very interesting, but I've never seen it reported this way before.

Hi Radomir

Good shot of this grey reptile hiding on the rocks. Good composition and POV.

Hi Radek

Nice to see you again old friend! What a fine picture you've brought back from Turkey here!
I love these types of lizards and i can see why they call them "a star" :) They are beautiful but seem to command respect in the same time.
You photo also pictures your subject in its natural habitat and allowing it to fully use its nice camouflage.
Very well seen, taken and presented.

Bravo and TFS
