Hyponephele lupina-lupinus , (Costa,[1836])
Oriental Steppe Brown

Turkish Name: Esmer Peri Kelebeği

Distribution in Turkey: Turkey is anywhere.

Distribution in the world: Turkey, Mediterranean coastal countries, North Africa and Central Asia are available.

Living Area: Above sea level, land at an altitude of 2600 meters high. Hot and flowering meadows, high forests and valleys.

Flight time: One generation from late May till August.

Food Plants of the caterpillar: Caterpillars, feeding on plants develop Graminea type.

Description-Notes: This species and lycaon differ from one another in size. The upperside markings are also distinct. Comparing the sexes lycaon is always much brighter and with extensive (although not always bright) yellowy orange markings. The much darker, grey brown of lupina is quite distinct. The current species also has heavily scalloped hindwings compared to lycaon and jurtina. The scalloped edge to the hindwing and the large eyespots help separate this species from the similar "Dusky meadow brown", Hyponephele lycaon. The best feature however is on the upperside of the male, which has no veins crossing the dark patch in lupina.

Wingspan: 40-45 mm long.

Salam and Merhaba Seyfi
Such a beautiful butterfly well composed in good position and excellent sharpness.
The blurry background indeed offers a pretty and effective contrast.
Excellent fine work and a very marvellous kmahe.

Hi Seyfi,

You're capturing well this yellow butterfly by a good composition, a good focus and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the butterfly with yellow wings, brown edge and black spotted pattern. The whole is harmonized well by a good color combination.

Kind regards,

Hello Seyfi- I found this beautiful Oriental Steppe Brown butterfly in your gallery. As usual a well managed BG, with splendid light and details. I like sharpness here. Great work. Thanks for sharing. Regards- Srikumar
