Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) lycius, (Carbonell, 1996)
-Common Name : The Lycian Blue / Carbonell’s Blue
-Turkish Name : Carbonell Mavi Kelebeği
-Distribution in Turkey : Southern West Anatolia Antalya, Isparta and Denizli Province.
-Distribution in the World : Turkish and Mediterranean endemic.
-Living Area : Above sea level, lives at altitudes of 1,150-1,500 meters. Rocky areas (eg. inland cliffs, mountain peaks), shrublands.
-Flight time : Polyommatus lycius flies in one generation from late June to early August.
-Food Plants of the caterpillar : The caterpillar feeds on various sainfoins (Onobrychis spp.), Alpine French Honeysuckle (Hedysarum hedysaroides) and others
-Description-Notes:Type locality : Elmalı-Antalya -[Turkey]. Male: The wing color is light blue. Black veins on the front wing are absent or short. Androconial flaking on the anterior wing is prominent. There is marginal black flaking on the wing. Postdiscal spots under the anterior wing are not very large. Postdiscal spots under the rear wing are small but neatly ordered. Posterior wing, sub-marginal spots are less developed. Basal greenish blue flaking under the rear wing is faint. "Agrodiaetus band", no contrast with less developed wing color; does not expand distally. P. Lycius, which does not fly on valley floor or high slopes
1,150-1,500 meters on the lower slopes of the mountains (Carbonell 1996) between the water resources around the dense and rich vegetation areas.
-Wingspan : 22-26 mm long.
-The origin of the name : That is, the Lycian-(Anatolia), a surname of Apollo , who was worshiped in several places of Lycia, and had a sanctuary and oracle at Patara in Lycia.
-Endangerment factors : Polyommatus lycius is heavily endangered in Turkey. Agricultural areas surrounding areas on the species due to the potential for poses a threat.. [CR] Vulnerable D1 Endangered
-Similar Species :
• The subgenus - Agrodiaetus butterflies are very similar to each other.
