|his large, brown dragonfly has a greenish face with no cross stripes. Length varies from 2.7 to 2.8 inches. On the thorax, markings are yellow-green below blue. For males, markings on the abdomen are blue. Females can have three different color variations. Blue form females have blue abdominal markings. Green form females have green spots, and yellow form females have markings in yellow with wings possibly tinted orange-brown.|
Wide ranging and fairly common in northern United States and southern Canada, this species prefer marshy ponds and slow streams, including small temporary ponds and sometimes bogs.
