The snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus), is also known as the varying hare, snowshoe hare or snowshoe rabbit and is a species of hare found within North America. It's obtained the handle "snowshoe" due to it's rather large size of its hind feet which also prevents it from sinking too low in the snow when it's in motion. The feet also have thick fur on the soles to protect it from the harsher elements of wintertime. (see workshop for an image of the 'snowshoes')
