The Purple Finch in-flight
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hello friends, not an spectacular photo but for me it is the
77th species of birds that I am taking in photo in-flight.
Photo taken at Rusagonis a village near Fredericton in
New Brunswick, Canada. I did a 9 hours (8 hours driving)
travel to my pointing dog's (Griffon Korthals) breeder's home,
this photo was taken at their bird feeders station.
1/4000s f/5.6 ISO1000 85mm (35mm eq:127mm).

« The Purple Finch is the bird that Roger Tory Peterson
famously described as a “sparrow dipped in raspberry
juice ” For many of us, they’re irregular winter visitors
to our feeders, although these chunky, big-beaked finches
do breed in northern North America and the West Coast.
Separating them from House Finches requires a careful look,
but the reward is a delicately colored, cleaner version of that
red finch. Look for them in forests, too, where you’re likely to
hear their warbling song from the highest parts of the trees. »
Merci.

Hello Asbed,
I so wish We could have gotten together when Rosie and I were up in your area, as I would have loved to see your technique in capturing such fine inflight shots. Wonderful frozen image of this pretty little lady as she appears to be dropping out of the sky. Good detail and natural colors.
We have plenty of house finches, but I haven't seen any Purple Finches that I was aware of. They seem to be here year round and really hit the feeder hard, especially in the winter months.
