This Black-Crowned Night Heron was captured resting on a log in a shallow slough near Brooks, Alberta. As the title says they remind me of Alfred Hitchcock.

General Description

The Black-crowned Night Heron breeds on the prairies and in the parklands of Alberta. It spends the winter near both coasts of the U.S.A.

It arrives on the prairies in mid April and departs in mid September. It frequents shallow marshes and small lakes.

The diet of the Black-crowned Night Heron consists of small fish, invertebrates and aquatic insects. It often feeds at dusk, when it stands motionless, waiting for prey to pass within striking distance.

It nests colonially in willows and shrubs. The nests are built of sticks and twigs, and lined with reeds and grass.

Hi Rick,
Nice image of this Heron in the swampy surroundings. The bird itself is lovely and sharp and we can see much of its detail. This is kind of spooky.

Hi Rick,
you have got to know that these birds are right up there amongst my most favorite of all birds.I think that the title you have given this capture works very well(I could almost hear it saying 'good evening').You have done well to get this photo as these birds are very skittish and shy.There is some softness to the focus but I think that is because of the post processing of the image editor you have used.The water level looks like it has dropped quite a lot,we sure could use some rain."Hitchcock" looks good with true colour and an interesting point of view.Thanks for showing us this one.
