Western Dock
Rumex occidentalis

Western dock is a native plant that grows throughout western North America. It loves moistures and can be found near ponds, marshes, sloughs, rivers and creeks. This plant is not normally eaten but the natives use to use a poultice of both the leaves and roots for sores, rheumatism, boils and cuts. The Western dock is a tall perennial that can grow up to 1.8 metres tall.

Walking along the river I came across this plant and thought it was pretty. The red blooms have all dried up and have turned brown. I thought the plant looked nice against the golden grass and river.

Hi Janice,
A little soft in focus, but the composition is very good. Great contrast between the cools blue water and the warm grass colors.

Hello Janice,
Wonderful capture.Well seen and composed.POV,details, colors and framing are perfect.
TFS...:-)

Hello Janice,
I like this way of seeing nature!
It is a well composed image, with good autumn colours and fine details in the straws...
The river provides a beautiful background!
Greetings,
Pablo -

I like this simple image, Janice. Nicely lit and composed. The whole piece works well, too. It might have been a bit better if you were a foot or two taller, though, so it was just water in the bg.

P.S. I'm glad to see it's not just me that hasn't been motivated to get out in the clouds and cold. I think it's been cloudier than normal, but my wife hasn't notice that. I'm tempted to believe a photographer first.

Hello janice !

Thanks for your comment on my photo " After The Storm" :o)

Wild rhubarb eh!

I have always found it fascinating how tough this plant is!
The stalks are nicely off-set against the river < which one? Is it the BOW? >

You have reminded me that I have some shots somewhere of actual rhubarb... Must check my photo archives and hard drives!

So long!

By the way, are you the Janice who helped me with Themes?

I got it going! TFS! ;j.

PS -38 eh!!! Not today I hope! I was cutting grass yesterday! And foog!

Hi Janice,
nice to see this and read your accompanying note. This is a plant that I have seen many times but until now never knew the name of.A fine composition with mellow colour and soft focus, nicely done. Tfs Bob

Ps there is an advantage to your not posting too much as of late and is one gets a chance to get caught up on your earlier material.
