[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I met this guy in October in Jasper National Park. There was already snow at higher elevations and the deer were coming down to eat the still green grass along the rivers. He is a male Mule or Black tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus), probably a two year old. I took a few images of him, but this is the only one where he had lifted his head. Mule deer band together in groups with the older males together and the females and younger animals forming differnt goups. This guy was in a group of females and fawns, not yet ready to run with the big boys yet. They are nick named mule deer because of their huge ears.

To all on TN; HAVE YOURSELVES AND YOUR FAMAILIES A GREAT CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Hi Denis, this is a fine looking shot of a young buck, first year at that too!I have seen perhaps some 3000 or 4000 deer so far in my lifetime and to date I have yet to see an antlered young buck such as this one.The mule deer are the ones found commonly here in Alberta and as lovely as they are,I still like the prettier white tails better but that is not to say the mule deer are unattractive, they are not.I see the focus is a little bit soft for this shot and since I'm not familiar with your camera it may just be the light you had to work with,as you know dull light is tough at the best of times.A decent and soft photo of a familiar species, one I like to see every time I get the chance. Thanks for sharing and the best to you in this holiday season.

Hi Denis
I love your caption, it's really fitting. Nice capture of this young buck, he's a very handsome boy. I like the way he's looking right at you with his big fuzzy ears and cute face. Well done.

Hello Denis,
such a special capture. The brownish view is so exciting with the deer giving a good glance. The grass makes your shot so lively and graphic. The composition is well presented.
Very lively nature view.
