Obviously it was difficult to aproach the eagle so you made the choice of a larger view. Imagine you had put the eagle in the upper left third, so that the main subject is out of the center (which is never the best choice), you should then see the forest below the eagle and I imagine also the lake on the lower right half. In that case you would have shown a nice landscape with a fine composition instead of a small eagle in the middle of the empty sky.
Composition is very important in all type of photography, also in landscape and even in full frame portrait photography.
