[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This spider has been hanging around in the window of my garage lately. Quite large, by our standards, the abdomen is about the size of the end of my finger. I used a tripod for this macro shot. Can anyone identify it? (My sister thinks maybe it's a Cat-Faced Spider, which do exist in our area.) |

I'm not able to identify it, but I can tell that you captured some excellent details. Bob, from what I have been able to tell is the expert on that - along with several others! A frontal shot would be interesting, but not knowing if it is capable of lethal poison, I'd back off too. You captured the fine hairs on its legs and back and have enlarged it enough so that this acrophobiac took a deep breath!
Its an Orbweaver... check out this site for more info..

I am so scared of spiders, but have somehow still managed to gather up my courage, hold my breath and photograph a few spiders when I lived in Australia, and then naturaly afterwards freaked out and ran around in a panic... hee hee
Nice close macro shot, would have been nice to have a photo from where you found it, or contrasted on something green... like a leaf. And also different angles, but you did good on the macro... nice and clear, spikey & scary. :)

Hi Dave,
Interesting close-up of this spider. Light is well used giving depth to image. Very good color match between spiders body color and paper color. I like the idea to put the spider on that writen paper as so we can determine the its dimmensions. Very good DOF showing clear details all over arachnid's body.
Best regards,
Cristian
