This is a rare American Bittern, very well camoflaged against the old growth. |

Hello Dave
A very good capture of this American Bittern. They are difficult to get close to.A fine example of camouflage.
The lighting is well handled, and the colours are vivid and natural.
Very good plumage detail.
The POV and DOF are very good.
Lovely eye contact too.

Hi Dave, very nice capture of this American Bittern. I like the pose of this guy in the brush like this, you can really see how their unique colouring would help camouflage them. Very excellent focus and exposure on the bird, with great depth of field to show his environment.
Thanks, John
Excellent image, well done to catch this timid well camouflaged species. We have an Australian Bittern, family Ardeidae a partially nocturnal heron with upper parts that are patterned dark brown, buff and black, and underparts that are streaked brown and buff. Related to Night Heron and Striated heron.
I'm sure I'd have walked right by this guy Dave. Nice to see you spotted him. Excellent eye focus Dave. I like the gold colours as well. A great post. TFS Trevor
