The strawflower is a flowering plant of the genus Helichrysum in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The type species is Helichrysum orientale. There are an estimated 600 species.
Its name was derived from the Greek words helisso (to turn around) and chrysos (gold). The plant is native to Australia. The flower heads are made up of papery petallike parts and are of various colors.
Last weekend I noticed this gorgeous strawflower in front of a coffee shop. It was such a beautiful day, the sunshine kissed these flowers probably the last time before they are gone.
