[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is, I do believe, a western tanager. It was perched in some willows, planted within riprap (put there to stabilize the river bank at this location). The river is the Shuswap, in British Columbia. Since this photograph was taken, these willows have had to be protected with mesh screens around their bases, to discourage the local beavers from felling them.
