[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Subcomandante Marcos is a Giant Yellow Cedar or Cypress located near the location of General Broeren - the largest standing Yellow Cedar in British Columbia. This tree exists at the edge of a clear cut, in fact a smaller tree growing from the root of this giant was felled - so it was begrudgingly set aside by loggers. Its chance of survival is slim as the protective forest around it is gone - it will probably be blown down in the not too distant future. Because the Yellow Cedar Giants in the Memekay River Valley have been given names with a military prefix I decided to name this tree after Subcomandante Marcos an enigmatic and humourous leader of an Indigenous Uprising in the state of Chiapas Mexico in 1994. See his bio in Wikipedia.
