Sisyrinchium montanum Greene

Prairie, Aspen, Parkland, Boreal Forest, Montane, Sub-alpine

Along the edge of the river I found this dainty violet colour flower. It has 6 notched and awned petals. It grows from 19 to 30mm tall and can have up to 5 flowers per stem. The leaves are grass like, very narrow with transparent margins at the base. It loves to grow out of old dead leaves or decaying plant matter.

There are 50 to 60 species of of Sisyrinchium in North and South America including the West Indies.

Janice, there seems to be some noise on the bg, but, apart from that, a lovely and beautiful capture. I do enjoy composition and the blurred bg.

The flower is nicely exposed and carries some fine detail Janice.

So, this grows in the wild in Alberta, how lovely! I adore it and have it, as well as a white one, in my garden. Excellent capture, very sharp and fine colours. I like the way it is very nicely isolated from the background.

Hello Janice,
Try using an F-stop of F/11 so that the stem also is in focus in these type of shots. This would make the photo more presentable as the complete plant would be focused to the audience.
The flower is well taken, and is beautiful...
