I just got back from fishing and capturing this scene from across the river.
Just a couple of hits, one on, lost the Rainbow. These Sandhill cranes though, liked us so much, that they stayed near and watched me and another guy fish. I'm sure if I had a 100-400mm IS, there would have been some spectacular shots. However, the Fuji S5000 10x came in handy for this scene.

As you can see, it was foggy, the cranes across the river, the yellow grass, what more does one need, it's a painting!!! And that is what I wanted to portray with this shot and I am happy with the outcome.
Mind you, if all goes well, in June, I'll have my baby, 20D. Just imagine how much more I could have had with these cranes.!!!
Like I said for now, I am glad that these cranes were as close to give me this.
I hope you like this one. I figure about 75 to 100 feet away.

Wonderful!! It's almost a sequence of just one bird and not three. Perfect atmosphere with the fog and all. You've captured a great moment Mike. Well done and TFS!

Halo Mike!
This is wonderful photo! Superb atmosphere and just amazing soft colours! PERFECT!

You lucky, lucky guy! How marvellous to see these in the wild! I love the pose, 3 different beak positions, and if they were calling, well, heaven! The fog doesn't distract from the composition, which is wonderful. I see the shot as 3 shoots from the same root. Good job, as always, Mike, too bad about the one that got away! Linda

It's really like a painting Mike. Excellent foggy capture. Poses and composition just wonderful.
Very well done.

Great shot Mike!
Photos with mist have always great atmosphere and so is this time.
I like cranes very much, though they are rather noisy. Didn't they scare away all fishes?
I really like it.
Well done!

A great shot, very atmospheric. The fog works really well. The individual poses here are fantastic, great timing.
One tiny issue (IMHO)is the frame. I know you were after a painting effect, but for me it isn't working - sorry ...
Thanks for posting Mike.

Some photos do not neccessarily have to be perfect with technical values for being charming, this is a good example of this fact. Just like a dream ! Congrats !

This ROCKS Mike! Period. Exceptional moment and a great composition and pose. The fog adds a nice effect. Very well done.

I love the feel of this picture, Mike. The composition is perfect. It does look like a painting. I have a weakness for sandhill cranes. I have seen thousands upon thousands of them come to roost in the sunset, but have never been able to capture one on a photo of any quality. This is fantastic. : )

Mike, what a beautiful artistic shot you have here. You must be thrilled with the outcome. They cranes positioned just right, and I love the changing angles of their heads. And the grass is perfect in the front too. Bravo.

Love it, really special mood set !

It's amazing Mike!
I liked the composition very much! Thanks for sharing.

I like it just fine, Mike. It is a superb fog-shot. What an exceptional pose of these three, looking almost like one in different positions! Well done and thank you.
Congratulations on the captures, including the fish.

Excellent shot Mike with the foggy mist creating an overall ethereal quality here. It reminds me of a recent post of a bird landing on a pole in a sequence of continuous shooting frames superimposed into the one..Anyway, great shot man!!

Good one Mike, the foggy atmosphere has created a sureal backdrop, just as one would imagine. Great composition. Considering the conditions I think the S5000 has done a great job.

Great work Mike. Love the fog and the grasses in the foreground. The fog really adds to the atmosphere. What a treat to see these cranes.

Very effective composition and strange atmosphere you got on this shot. 99 of 100 times you would get nothing of this scene, but here the fanatstic pose of this 3 and you skill did it! Great one. Regards, Felipe.

That's a great photo Mike, i like the nice atmosphere with the fog, you did a perfect shot!

Hi Mike,

very artistic :) it does look like a painting, very peaceful . It looks like 1 crane, in 3 different positions. Good compo, very well done

What a great composition ! The position of the birds is excellent !

Nice capture! Has a mysterious feel to it because of the fog! If I recall correctly these are extremely noisy birds!

Old Eagle Eye!
This is one super shot - the cranes, their stance and the fog! VERY wel done. I love th compo here - works nice with the three in one birds on the strong node.
See you have beem busy with the sweet and nasties of the insect world too - some very nice critters there too.

SUPERBE . BRAVO beau travail

Hi Mike,
I found this shot and want to tell you how impressing it is. Just a little mystic or like a szene from Edgar Wallice with the fog.
This is what I like TN for, thanks a lot

This has got to be one of the most interesting shots I've seen. You've done a great job capturing the subjects in a sequentially interesting pose. And of course the fog and dried grasses add a nice texture to the mix.

Hello Mike,
A magnific photo, looks like a paint.
Very good composition and birds pose.
These are the famous endangered cranes?

I like the sequence in this photo. Fog is OK.

lovely shot

Mike, I found your cranes via Manyee's Barba Greyus and Loot's Dame Barba(ra) von Warta... and I must say I like this shot a lot! It reminds me a lot of being squished up against the bank of the South Saskatchewan, watching the migratory birds gathering close to Cabri,

How you managed to get the rhythm of the "A one, a two, three" on these "clattering cranes"
is amazing. Barbershopping are they? < To come back to Loot's theme. >

Well captured, and glad you conveyed the "mood". You and Fuji 5000 did the job.

Love the sweeping repetition here Mike. Composition works well and the fog gives great atmosphere. Best, Brat.

Perfection. What a shot. It seems the moment I get within a mile of Cranes they are gone. Fabulous image.
