I went AWOL the last few days, due to cabin fever. Yes, Lucy and I lost our senses traded in our travel trailer and bought a new one. So we had to try it out even though the first night it was -15 Celsius and the second night it snowed and blew hard we gave it a fair test drive out at the Cypress Hills. No neighbours either night except some noisy coyotes that decided we needed serenading. The first night the stars were amazing, you felt like you could reach out and touch them the second night was black, like being inside a cow. Bob Shannon knows all to well what I'm talking about. We talked with a friend Linda she lives on a farm just west of the hills and she walked out of the house onto her deck the other morning where she feeds her cats and found some fresh blood, thinking one of the cats was injured she followed the trail to the shed, when she went to go inside she came face to face with a cougar, the cougar picked up the dead cat and walked out as Linda backed away from the door of the shed, hows that for a wake up call.

Todays posting is from last spring and is a male Mountain Bluebird, one of the most vivid birds in our area. An early returning species they shouldn't be more than a month or so away. They feed mainly on insects and prefer short grass prairie for habitat. They nest in vacant tree hollows or bird boxes. Many volunteer groups set up what are called bluebird trails which are a group of boxes that they maintain and keep track of numbers of hatchlings surviving.

Hi Rick,

A beautiful Bluebird in a wonderful pose. Are you yearning for spring? Colors are superb with wonderful shading - details of the face and wings are marvelous. The story you told about the cat is an all too familiar one here. The desert is not pet friendly.

Hi Rick,

Gorgeous blue on this Mountain bluebird!
I really like the composition having the bird showing all his feathers in very good details and showiing us his profile so we can appreciate the beautiful catch light in his eye.
Very well done!

Lise

Congratulations on your new travel trailer. I hope you get lots use out of it this summer. Beautiful Bluebird here. Nice pose, focus and BG.

Hi Rick, we have so many bluebird boxes set up around our place (in Ontario),and I've even set up a couple myself, but I have yet to see a Bluebird. This is a beautiful bird. You've done a great job here in capturing this image. The pose is great with him showing his back, and turning his head back to provide full visibility. Very beautiful colour and excellent detail.

Thanks, John

Hello Rick,
