My second upload of a GoldenRod Crab spider , this one shot in the Canon s3's super macro mode ( if I recall correctly). This spider made such a gracious subject that I visited it on a regular basis , but I have yet to be so lucky as to see one with its prey , maybe this year ...

The spiders name is based on the flower which it is most commonly seen , the Goldenrod or Solidago sp. I am not certain of the name of this flower but call it a wild sunflower , when the spider is lurking on the leaves it is quite hard to see , but in it's present location it is very vulnerable to birds which would easily spot it here.

I have seen photo's of this spider in two colors , the other being white , it is capable of forced mimicry , meaning it can change color according to the color of the flower it is on , I have also yet to find a white one for myself...

This is a female spider , they are the sex that takes up residency on a flower , the male is considerably smaller , and rouge , traveling from flower to flower in search of females.

the source of much of my data is the free wiki.

Hi Art.
Simply amazing picture of so wonderful scene. I love these flowers and species of spider and have pictures of both. Great is all: rich colours, great DOF, amazing blue BG which is looked through the petals, brilliant image of the spider. My congratulations.

Hi Art,
What a colorful picture!
You've got a very appealing image with the strong contrast made by the yellows and reds of the flower.
Very good lighting and composition made on this macro shot.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,

Hello Art,
Beautiful and very colourful picture of crab spider! Natural - but vivid and perfectly saturated colours make this presentation very "sunny" and optimistic.
Bravo and TFS!

Hi Art,
it is interesting to see a spider blend in so perfectly with its environment. Good shot, good composition. The animal assumes a menacing stance adapted to its predacious ways. To me the color orgy is recalling the times when Kodak advertised its color films :-) films. Well done.
Best regards

Hello Art

This is wonderful, the lighting and colours are vibrant and bright.
Excellent composition.
Just marking the post for now.

Hallo Art
What a brilliant shot. A beautiful macro with excellent sharpness, and most delightful view. The details of both the flower and the spider are just eye-catching and I cannot really say the one is better than the other. But maybe the spider wins with a few points. What a luck shot. You have been at the right spot at the right time. The combination of colours and the detail on the flower is great. A most appealing and bright and sunny sight. You have used the light well, emphasizing the golden threads within the flower. Thanks for sharing. I appreciated this one very much.
Kind regards
