The Water Strider
Family: Gerridae
Species: Gerris argentatus

The water strider lives on ponds and small streams, and can run across the surface of the water.
Its belly is covered with water-repellent hair. Like all insects, it has a three-part body (head, thorax and abdomen), six legs, and two antennae.
It has a long, narrow body. Some water striders have wings, and most of these bugs are about a centimetre long.
The water strider's long middle legs move it across the surface of the water like paddles.
The hind legs are used to steer, and also act as brakes. The short front legs are used to catch prey.

Wow Luc! What a capture. I guess these amazing insects do move quite fast as they run acroos the water. So well caught! Good details and clarity. Well done and TFS.

Gostei muito do contorno da água em volta das patas do inseto. A flutuação sobre as águas, também é um atrativo para que vê. Parabéns.
Wagner.

Great natural capture, Luc! Nice closeup too! Excellent that you have caught the little ripples made by his appendages as he walks on the surface of the water. The stars are exquisite! Marvellous detail. 10 out of 10 for this one!

Hi Luc, thanks for this photography! This insects remainds me all my walks to Botanical Garden's ponds with my hand made net to capture water insect with I could later admire in aquarium in my room. Quiet times, with october sky and wind, insects and books. And those Striders were always my friends in those times. So big thanks again Luc!

Star and stars,wonderful compositon!
Lighting,details,framing and DOF are excellent.
Thanks for sharing.

It's really a challenge to get such a clear image of this insect Luc. Plus this, image has very good color scheme and a well composition.
Very well done.

Bonjour Luc.

Really well captured Luc,
well composed, good detail and sharpness. The starlike reflections are awesome. Thanks for posting

Luc, you continue to surprise me with this cameras capabilities. This is a really good macro. I posted one of these last year,, It was rubbish compared to this one. The close-up extension has given you an excellent tool to play with. I love the star-bursts where the legs touch the water. Stunning shot. TFS.

Very nice shot Luc, good POV and details.
Well done.
TFS

My Friend
Hope you have some sunshne and the end of the snow - if you can post critters running on the water. Very nice pic, great detail, down to the dimples in the water he is making with his feet - I have never seen them this close before - TFS and have a wondeful new week - Callie

Luc, I know how difficult this is. I tried a couple of times but eventually gave up. This is a FANTASTIC macro. Really impressive. The colors are so soothing. MASTERPIECE! very well done my friend.

Did you get the payment of my debt? :)

Excellent shot Luc, this is very good. These insects are quite difficult to get right and you have excelled. The POV is good and I love the surface tension dimples. Very well done.

Very nice shot! The brightness of the water is beautiful!
Are you an biologist, entomologist...?

This are always difficult to get, and not only took a nice shot, but an arty photo with the sparkling details. I guess you were very pacient to get this one resting. Thanks and regards, Luc.

WOW.....!
Lovely Photo!
