Even the most myopic wanderer would have a hard time not noticing this colorful, broadwinged damselfly.

The male jewelwing has an irridescent green thorax and abdomen which can often appear bluish under certain lighting scenarios. The wings are clear except for a black tip that is approximately 1/4 of the wings length. The combination of the wing pattern and the jittery flight makes this species really catch the eye as it flies around.

The females are quite similar to the males with the exception that their thorax and abdomen are more bronze in colour. Also, the tip of their wings are not quite as dark and have a white spot (stigma) on the leading edge of their wings.
