Chien de prairie / Prairie dog

Prairie dogs are named for their habitat and warning call, which sounds similar to a dog's bark. The name was in use at least as early as 1774.[1] The 1804 journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition note that in September 1804, they "discovered a Village of an animal the French Call the Prairie Dog."[2] Its genus, Cynomys, derives from the Greek for dog mouse.

In companies that use large numbers of cubicles in a common space, employees sometimes use the term prairie dogging to refer to the action of several people simultaneously looking over the walls of their cubicles in response to a noise or other distraction. This action is thought to resemble the startled response of a group of prairie dogs.

Hi Alain,
The funniest thing I have ever seen is a picture of a prairie dog with a Army helmet and rifle. The caption read "The Saskatchewan Army is down sizing." Really sharp, I like the catch light and the alert look on its face. What's the diffence between this and a Richardsons ground squirrel?
Denis.

Hello Alain,
Another excellent image. Lovely details, colors and perfect focus.
The clarity, light, exposure and sharpness are superb.
It is a exceptional capture with a gorgeous little fellow.
Thanks for sharing!
Marius.

Bonjour Alain,

I like the natural setting and the animals alert pose, they have to stay on their toes..
Just look at that nose ;)
Excellent details and colors, nice bit of catch-light in the eye too.
