[Carduelis Tritis,] American Goldfinch, male.

Smaller than a sparrow, Breeding male, bright yellow with white rump, black forehead, white edges on black wings and tail and yellow at bend of wing.
Habitat; Brushy thickets, weedy grasslands, and nearby trees.
Nesting; 4-5 pale blue eggs in a well made cup of grass, bark strips and plant down, placed in the upright fork of a small sapling or shrub.
Range; Across southern Canada to Newfoundland, south to Georgia, Arkansas, central Oaklahoma, southern Colorado, Central Utah, and baja california. Winters south to the Gulf of Coast and Southern mexico.
Food; Thistle seeds, at feeding stations it will feed on Niger seeds and black oil sunflower seeds.

This photo was taken with the Canon EOS Elan fixed with 100-300mm and tripod. This was my first Wildlife photo when I bought the Camera back in 92 specificaly for this kind of photography. The branch was a set up for a natural looking shot. The bird is staring at the feeder.
I used the Fuji S5000 digi in macro to duplicate the photo and in photoshop did all the necessary work just like the rest of my picks you see in my intro except the Deer. I also softened the image abit. I have no scanner to duplicate any of my old photos. The digi cam is all I have.
Hope this is to your sastifaction, the original photo is ten times better.

Nice shot, you should try neat image, it should clean the image up nicley.

Yes, Mike this one is very noisy. And the focus is soft. Not your usual standard. Lovely bird and a nice note.

The original should be a great shot!! Thanks for going to all the trouble to post this. Maybe you should join Paul, and together you could think of a way to fund your needs ;). Well done!

Great shot but noisy and focus a bit soft.
Good note

Interesting finch. The photo quality doesn't concern me too much when I'm seeing and learning about new species, though I daresay this bird is very familiar to many of you.
We need these here to clear up our thistles.

Mike, This is a great pose by a very handsome looking bird! I think it's fair to say that too much has been lost in your reprocessing this time..

A good capture.
Excellent composition.
Its very nice but some of the details look to have been lost this time.
I'll try a workshop using neatimage to see if I can clean the noise a bit.A good free to use version is available from www.neatimage.com
A good shot and note, well done.

Well, it's a good composition and ignoring the quality of the reproduction, the branch behind the bird is a little overbright. Good work and excellent note, well done Mike.

I like this image and would like to see the original. Just a thought I had just now. If you still have the negatives, most of the photolabs now have the ability to scan to jpeg at brilliant resolution. and they charge very little to do so. this way you can have all your beauties digitised.

Thanks for posting

Nice beauty you have here for us, Mike. One of your more colourful NAm birdies. It's bit soft though, but a nice pose. Sorry.
As for the meganser, I have very nice shots of the male too, I am just too busy working on deadlines for regular TN.
