Arctic Fox: a cute animal (Alopex lagopus)

His name is Tipper. He is of the same colour as Snowy but she could eat him.
I photographed her in Ecomuseum in the West of the Island of Montreal.
She is an adorable animal.

Length: Up to 3 ft.
Height: Up to 12 in.
Weight: 5-11 lb.
Gestation: 50-63 days

Physical Characteristics: The arctic fox goes through two color phases: white and blue. During the winter the arctic fox is white with black at the tip of its tail; it's a grayish brown in the summer. The blue Arctic fox is a dark blue during the winter; in the summer it is brown. The fox has short ears and long fur, which helps preserve body heat. Although they have small ears they have excellent hearing. Their feet are big and hairy (which helps them to move quickly across the snow). These small creatures can jump 2 ft!
Habitat / Daily life / Hunting and Feeding: The arctic fox lives in polar regions. They live in small groups made up of one adult male and the rest females and young. The fox is territorial and its territories are usually 2100-18000 acres long. Territories are established by the amount of food available. Arctic foxes are carnivores and eat marine animals, lemmings, rodents, birds and carrion. Sometimes the Arctic fox will follow polar bears and feed on the leftovers.
Reproduction and Young: After a period of 50-63 days up to 25 pups are born. Only about half generally survive. Breeding is once a year in late winter. The father of the family stays and guards the den or he goes out hunting to bring back food to the young.
Status: The arctic fox is suffering from rabies as well as other fox species. Hunters trap arctic foxes, but the arctic fox is still hanging in there.

I hope you like Tipper.

Beautiful picture Luc.
Very cute with very good details, POV and composition.
Great exposure, you handle the white very well.
Very well done.

Points later . out of dimes.

Fantastic photo Luc,
The sharpnes is great, you can count the hairs, well detailed shot I love it, fantastic pof great dof, very good note, great job

Luc, you managed to capture the artic fox without over exposing the whites. The head is well differentiated to the body. The composition is well done.

Beautiful shot, Luc. I like it very much, it looks realy imaculate, as if you had just taken from the washing machine, remember the pink panther credits :D
I agree with you it is an adorable animal. Nice framing, maybe just a bit large for my taste. Good note too. Gracias!

Tu as bien raison, un superbe animal.
Ta photo est excellente, et tu tu as parfaitement maitrisé l'exposition, difficile sur ces blancs.
Les détails sont réellement surprenant.
Vraiment bien vu et réalisé, merci.

This is amazing. Perfect in every way. The white is superb, and the detail of his fur...I love the transparency of his fur along the crest of the back. Well done.

Hi Luc
Quickly, I must write a comment, before the dimes are all spent, again!
This is a beautiful little fluffy doggie, dressed in his winter coat, so sought after as pelt in the past.
I think you must call him "Innocence" since he looks so sweet, but remember, below that sweet look is the heart and mind of a thief!
Study the gleam in the ye, and you will see why!

Luc, delightful picture. I like the composition. Although the fox isn't wholy depicted, your composition is nice. Great job.

Excellent sharpness and DOF.

Luc, I can't believe I have missed this. This happens when you trod off to have holidays. This is the most adorable creature I have seen on this site. I would take it home if I could. You choose a difficult subject and pulled it off remarkably well. Great shot old Friend. Well done.

Very beautiful picture. I like all the artic animals, hope to go to Canada on holiday sometime...
I've got the same camera as you by the way, I've bought it as a second camera, also to make underwater pictures. The quality is very good.

Hi Luc
Your 'sweet and pleasant creature', the red fox, led me up the garden path to say hello to its cousin, the arctic fox. This one had a lot of friends over time. I am convinced it must be a TN record. I am sure (as your notes clearly say) you did not lead us here with the expectancy to do a critique, but I think I will not be true to myself if I do not give credit where credit belongs.
It sure is a lovely animal and your photo do justice to this beauty. It was captured and presented in such a way that only one who truly loves nature and photography could master.
Brilliant work and TFS.

Hi Luc
superb photo superb pure white animal.

I want to cuttle him as well....this is such a beauty...super details...
