Snowy Owl (female) Nyctea scandiaca

I also hope that Paul will soon return to us and more in shape than ever.
This image is also a small wink to Callie.
Serge Gagné has already sent a photo of the same individual. I thank him for having made me discover
this paradise for the photographers that is Ecomuseum.

The Snowy Owl was first classified in 1758 by Carolus Linnaeus, the Swedish naturalist who developed binomial nomenclature to classify and organise plants and animals. The name "scandiaca" is a Latinised word referring to Scandinavia, as the Owl was first observed in the northern parts of Europe. Some other names for the Snowy Owl are Snow Owl, Arctic Owl, Great White Owl, Ghost Owl, Ermine Owl, Tundra Ghost, Ookpik, Scandinavian Nightbird, White Terror of the North, and Highland Tundra Owl. It is the official bird of Quebec.
Please refer here for more information.

I hope you like her.

A very nice portrait of this Snowy Owl. Excellent sharpness and color. Her eyes really grab your attention.

I love the look on this owls face. So cute, almost expect her to start laughing over that silly photographer. Super shot!

Luc, you have posted one of those photos I really like.
You know that birds are not my favourite subjects, but this is moody but detailed, has a big subject filling all the frame, the difficult light is managed nicely with fill flash and PP, perfect simetry is a wonderful add on.
And all this witn an equipment that costs 20 times less than many used around here!

Very good shot Luc,
I love owls, I love those good eyes, so I told Callie, very nice composing shot, great pof and dof, very good work I like it

Hi Luc
So good of you to post this wonder. I love snowys, and would like to see them for real. I note that their eyes are much smaller than the eagle owl I posted, even tough this is a larger bird. I think it has to do with its habitat, and the reflection of light off the snow!
Nice note too, and keep them rolling!
"Rare Bird"

Encore une très belle photo Luc. Bonne utilisation du flash révélant tous les détails du plumage sans brûler l'ensemble. À ce que je vois la visite à l'Écomuseum n'a pas fini de nous révéler ses trésors. Ciao!

Luc, nature is really fantastic: no mather if there is sun or snow, rain or drought, nature is there with its manifestations of life.

Beautiful, very beautiful shot. POV couldn't be better. Excellent sharpness, DOF and nice eye-to-eye contact.

WOW! Luc, these last three shots you took really impressed me a lot. The eye detail on this is superb. The darker feather contrasts nicely. Interesting subject and I like the tight crop. Great shot, Luc well done.
