Chris, what a view and what a shot. Yep, Robert Bateman would love this one. have a peek at my Great Grey, it reminded me of Bateman as well because of the background.
Excelent and well done on this composition.
IMO, grain/noise, www.neatimage.com you can download a free demo. Run this through it and you'll see a greater improvement. It's worth it. Go for it.

Chris, your image is a delight. I do like very much the opposition between the brown, somber of the forest zone where the heron stands and the clearer, white zone on the right. And, still, that later zone doesn't distract from the attraction point. Bravo!
P.S. Yes, it looks quite like some Bateman style.

I really like the contrast, and especially the light on the heron.A great shot!
No technical details, for that reason I cannot evaluate the reasons of the noise. But the noise is not disturbing me much :)

Its an excellent shot, has that artistic feel to it, though I would be tempted to run a weak noise reducer on the background. I like the split in the environent makes for an attractive contrast, also assist in pulling the viewers attention to the area of interest. Overall a superb shot.
