Red Squirrel
Tamiasciurus hudsonicus or Pine Squirrel, Chickaree

Description - The red squirrel is rust-red to greyish-red above being brightest on the sides, white or greyish-white below and the tail is similar to the back color but is outlined with a broad, black band edged in white. The coat is duller in the summer and a black line separated the back and underbelly colours. The average red squirrel weighs 7-12 ounces.

Distribution - The red squirrel is abundant in any kind of forest, coniferous, pine, mixed or hardwood forests, often around buildings. They occur through much of Canada and most of B.C.

Biology - This creature feeds heavily on pine seeds and in the fall it cuts green cones and buries them in damp earth ; other sustenance includes nuts, seeds, birds' eggs, young birds and fungi. It makes a nest of leaves in a hollow or fallen tree, hole in the ground or tree crotch. 3-7 young are born in March or April and there is sometimes a second litter in August or September. The squirrel is a chatterbox with a variety of calls to announce its home range or the presence of intruders.

Hola JeanPaul, muy original y buenos detalles esta squirrel, simpática postura.
Me agrada mucho el bg.y muy buena luz, saludos de Victor

You have enticed this fellow for a picture by hanging the 'bait' from the branch of a tree, JP. Very clever!
Nice perspective and a good snappy capture.
TFS and bye.

I feel that the focus on the head is a bit soft and the BG is clearly overexposed. Give it another try...

Hi JeanPaul,

You have captured a very interesting display of what these thieving little rascals will do to get to your bird seed. They are very clever and talented!

Excellent composition! The brightness of lighting coming through the trees shows me how difficult it was to get this shot technically right, but even if the shot is not completely technically correct you have captured a priceless moment well worth sharing.

well captured shot with excellent pov, niuce dof, well composed shot, well saturated colours,
tfs & regards

Allo Jean-Paul,

Hi Jeanpaul.
You managed to capture a very attractive action scene. I think, it was not so easy to capture this dynamic scene by your camera (I mean speed of focusing). The composition and appearance of the shot is perfect. TFS and best regards.

Hello JP

Great capture with excellent details, very crisp, colors, Bg, POV DOF perfect great work,

Hello JeanPaul,
what a cute little acrobat you got there. Very well captured, nice timing, great POV and wonderful details.

Hi JeanPaul,
NIce actiong picture. Squirrels are cheeky ones. Nice composition and pose. I like the fact it's upsidedown. Makes it interesting.
I think the midtones could be pushed slightly darker in levels a little, but that's just me. :)
