Voila here is my ovis canadensis canadensis.

This ram and I stared each other down close to the junction of highways 93 and 95 near Radium , BC

Shot was taken abt 4pm , on a very nice day towards the end of April 2006. We're looking Westward.

To me Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep spell the Rockies in Alberta/BC... Here is art imitating life!

PS More information follows here abt: ovis canadensis canadensis

PSS Another creature on the same trip...

NOTE: I did some postprocessing on the original post,
to see if it would deliver a better photo.
[ Using NeatImage for one PP step. ]
To be honest I'm not sure what - if anything - was improved /achieved.
For comparisson see the Original Version without NeatImage PP. I look forward to your feedback.

A cousin to my ram lives here.

Good Morning Jay,
This closeup of the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep shows good detail, has good depth of field and great color. I like the mountainous back drop alot, this guy looks like me though a little sleepy. Thanks for sharing, and have a great 2007.
Rick

I think this latest post of the "ovis canadensis" is sharper than the original you posted......fur is more "realistic" and the ram seems to predominate the photo, with the BG fading nicely back where it belongs!! I also noticed the scars on the fore-face of the ram, and looks like he has had a few "encounters".......this makes the photo a wee more interesting to me!!

well jay I wish you and your family a very good 2007.
This is an very interesting shot, a good pov and a good details, the close up is nice. I also like the dof, well done Jay.

Hoi Jay , I like this portret shot , It's a beauty head {kop } good sharpnes eye contact details pov and bg good job , tfs Greetings Teunie .

I'm not familiar with your camera. About what lens length did you use and how far were you actually from this beautiful creature? I trust that you weren't actually toe to toe! It is a really great shot. I have a goal to one day get a good shot of one of these guys. Nice work!

Hi Jay,
Yes, this a frontal view! And a dangerous one! Excellent details, dof, colors and bg.
TFS, Josť M.
PS. I find original a bit better that WS by its more saturated colors and a sharpness increase.

Hi Jay. A beautiful portrait of this mountain dweller. It has a serious look in his eye which you have captured well. Tough ram in a tough environment! Good close up. Murray.

Hi Jay,

Wow, if that isn't a closeup, I don' t know what is :-)
That's a great shot of this bighorn sheep.
Very good details, a good POV and I like the eyecontact very much. Very nice BG, those are mountains if I'm not mistaken?
It's a beautiful portrait, thanks for sharing!

Greetings, Nel

Hi Jay

Nice of you to direct me to this beautiful post of yours.
This was uploaded while i was away and apparently i didn't see it when i came back.
It's really wonderful!
The frontal POV works amazing and the sharpness of the details is impeccable.
Even the BG behind him is really amazing!
I personally think that hte PP version looks a bit better - has a wee more contrast, the details are a bit sharpe and the Neatimage did ok to remove the slight grain from the BG.
Very nice work!

Bravo and TFS

Hello Jay,
This amazing portrait is a pleasure for my eyes. You caught very well this magnificent animal !
The "+++" : subject, point of view, sharpness, DOF, blurred background with mountains, exposure...
The "-" : nothing...
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Hello Jay,
A strong portrait of this majestic animal, this guy isn't afraid of much!
Subject is well framed, and the expression is nicely captured with fine details...
