Hi Janice,
Thanks you saved me some research, I have been meaning to find out more on this lichen. I too find it eye catching.
You have captured it well in this detailed and colorful photo.
Rick
We have that species of lichen out here too Janice. Try cranking up the colour balance a bit to get the blue cast out of the log; which in turn would also bump up the greens a bit at the same time. Unfortunately I'm not on my main PC right now, or else I'd try a WS on it.

Hi Janice
As you said so yourself, this lime green lichen showed off well against the grey trunk and it made it stand out rather well. Your shortish but potent (sorry for the pun) notes informs us well about the toxic qualities and other uses of this fungi.
Great colours and excellent details make your subject look even more impressive in this interesting composition. The exposure was also handled very well. Since I have not seen this lichen myself, I do not know what the natural colour tone should be, but it seems like Tim (BillyGoat) did a good job with his workshop to optimise the colour balance and doing justice to your fine shot.
Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot
Hi Janice,
I lichen your lichen shot. The texture of these primitive plants has always caught my eye even when I was child. The limy green is very mellow looking ,almost florescent and it contrasts well against the tree bark.Tim's (BillyGoat) critique reflects what I was thinking as well.Nice composition and thank you for posting it. I have to agree with Rick abt the ID of this lichen. Nice detail on this shot Janice. I was gonna comment on the blue hue, and ready a workshoppe to do ;) But I see that BillyGoat did a swell job!
One final pointy -= to Loot =- I believe calling lichens fungi is not correct, or is only half the story...
""Lichens are symbiotic associations of a fungus with a photosynthetic partner (called a photobiont or phycobiont) that can produce food for the lichen from sunlight. ""
So whereas a fungus is part of the equation it is but part of the whole association called lichen. Lichens come in amazing forms!
Try this for an additional link...
Hope this helps, J.

Hi Janice, so that's what that is. I too saw, liked and shot this one, but I never knew what it was. You have an excellent background for this one with the grey stump. It provides an excellent contrast for the lichen.
Now reading your note, I'm not sure if it is the same thing. I shot mine in Ontario. If they're not the same then they are closely related.
Thanks, John

Janice, I like colors a lot, as well as lighting.
Maybe, I'd add a little bit of sharpness, but it's just an opinion.
