Yesterday I offered you the cocoon of a rice-paper butterfly. Today my offering is a step forward in the life of a butterfly, although it is a different one from yesterday.
This Emerald Swallowtail (Papilio palinurus, Philippines) emerged from a cocoon in the hatchery of the "Wings of Paradise" butterfly conservatory even as I stood watching. I had seen the casing twitching as I passed by just fifteen minutes before and now I had watched it slowly split to reveal this delicate gem, its wings still crushed with the weight of birth.

Tech: Camera handheld (tripods and monopods are not permitted during regular hours) and without flash as I did not want to disturb the emerging miracle
Shot in RAW, converted to jpg without changes, cropped a little to eliminate as much distraction as possible (the yellow shadow in the foreground is a rice paper butterfly chrysalis), resized, framed, sharpened

Thanks for your visit, your suggestions and your critiques. Thank you too for your patience with me as I try my hand at something new

Bonjour,
Belle texture des ailes.
Bonne journée.

Hi Silke,

Nicely captured and well done on the comp.

Neat image killed/plasticized the image, frankly, nothing wrong with grain.
When using neat, careful use should be maintained to keep the natural, if over used, flat/smooth surfaces can look plastic.

Mike

A great moment to capture, Silke, and you have done a great job. Congratulations!
The colors and patterns on the wings of the newly-born are glorious.

Hello Silke,
I love those colors as they almost look like an abstract painting. This is a beautiful and colorful specie that you capture in a good composition and POV. The picture is a little grainy as you know but still a good one ;)TFS,

Cool colors, Silke. Sharp considering that this is handheld macro. I read the thread on noise reduction, too. Very useful info.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Silke,
A great moment, where one of the miracles in material complexity can be seen. Here in TN there are millions of butterflies, but not so many cocoon or emerging butterflies and much less caterpillars.
Thank you for show it!

Hello Silke,
I think the shot is a little disturbed but that remains a good shot with a splendid butterfly. MaX.

Hi Silke,

A nice image of the butterfly, the photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
