Scarab jumper (Escarabajo Saltarín, Chicharra): *Chalcolepidius Limbatus*

Order: Coleoptera
Family: Elatiradae

Their Presence: 9,000 species in the entire world; they inhabit plants, trash, rotten trees and in the earth.

These scarabs also well-known as 'click", they are able to be impelled by the air, making a strong sound that one hears as a 'click', with which scares to their depredadores. Their express jump is possible thanks to its powerful muscles torácidos and a mechanism of union 'paw and articulation' in the inferior part of the thorax. They have an opaque color, they are lengthened and oval and of parallel sides, fusiform in the later part. The longitude of the body is from 0.2 to 7 cm. they Put the eggs in earth and in vegetable matter. The larvas that are denominated wire worms, in general are depredadores, although some feed of roots and tubers.

The Chalcolepidius Limbatus is in South America; this species eats plants and insects. The larvas are developed in the earth, garbage and rotten wood.

Me to identify this in the book: Animal. For: David Burnie. Dorling Kindersley. 1ra. Ed. 2003. (although a person that to live in the area of the swamps to say that to be
a cicada, perhaps for the sound that them to make).

Me to find this beautiful blue insect in the wood of the area of the Swamps of Centla.

Hola Ninfa. A nice and detailed close-up of the "jumper", with good textural details on its body. It also stands out well amidst the colorful surroundings. Interesting and detailed notes to go with it, well done.
Happy New Year to you!
