Turkey Vulture
Cathartes aura Order CICONIIFORMES - Family CATHARTIDAE

Although it has an ugly, bare-skinned face, the Turkey Vulture is beautiful on the wing. Seldom does this graceful and talented bird flap its wings as it soars over large areas searching for carrion.

Large soaring bird.
Long wings and tail.
Body feathers entirely blackish-brown.
Red head mostly unfeathered.

Size: 64-81 cm (25-32 in)
Wingspan: 170-178 cm (67-70 in)
Weight: 2000 g (70.6 ounces)

Hello Mario,

Just marking,

Hi Mario,
What a huge bird! You have taken a brilliant picture of this fascinating bird, The detail is perfect as is the composition,
Well Done and Merry Christmas,
Nick :-)

Excelente momento captado, perfecta la nitidez y encuadre.Feliz navidad

WOW! This is a SUPERB picture Mario. Perfect in every sense of it - technically and aesthetically. Great work,

Warm regards,

This is one of the best shot of this bird that I have seen in-flight and believe me, I have taken many Mario… This POV, composition and angle are dynamic and much impressive and so are details. You managed very well with those dark and pale zones which are hard to calibrate on those birds, excellent! :)! They are gone south for winter. Maybe this one live in the mountain here during summer (maybe that I once photographed him :) ... I would be very happy when I'll see them coming back. They are magnificent gliders and elegant birds who do an important job ! Congrats and TFS,

What a fantastic in-flight shot, Mario.
The perspective is excellent, with a clear view of the head, the wings spread out wide, and the feathers at the end splayed out.
Very dynamic. : )
Tulum is one of my favorite spots in the Yucatan Peninsula. Just gorgeous.
TFS and wishing you a very happy 2008!
