What a superb portrait of this very impressive animal!
I've allways admired owls for their adapration to the nocturnal conditions of hunting and this shot shows one of the most important elements - its eyes! They are truly hypnotizing :)

Scott,
"Happy" with this one wouldn't be the word I'd use. I'd be estatic! This is a fantastic shot thats superbly framed and perfectly isolated with the shallow DOF. great sharpness and detail in the whole owl, which to me is difficult to achieve and still get a OOF BG like this. You are great at figuring out distance from subject to get perfect isolation with the best blurred BG. Great job, proud to say I was there for this one!

Looking at the data given in your note, it is an unusually big bird.
The best part in this otherwise immaculately captured shot are the eyes of the owl. Couldn't think of better sharpness than that and the naturalness of their color. It is a bewitching stare!

Wonderful job, Scott. Great clarity. But I really like the angle on this one. My tendency is to shoot too straight on, but this reminds me of a portrait of a person. Too bad my bird place is closed for the season :-(

Hi Scott,
I see you got yourself a new photo on your intro page. One in full camo gear.
Its all about the eyes with these kind of photos and you nailed it perfectly. The eyes are really impressive. The rest is stunning as well and has great details in the feathers. it does feel a little soft around the edges, but that makes me focus on the eyes even more. The OOF BG really helpes to bring out the head perfectly.
