[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis) is a large crane native to North America and extreme northeastern Siberia. The common name of this bird refers to habitat like that of the Platte River, on the edge of Nebraska's Sandhills in the American midwest. This is the most important stopover area for the Lesser Sandhill Crane, (Grus canadensis canadensis), with up to 450,000 of these birds migrating through annually.

An interesting note from Wikipedia. "Mated pairs of cranes engage in unison calling. The cranes stand close together, calling in a synchronized and complex duet. The female makes two calls for every single call of the male." I've heard that this is also true of humans, but that's only because the female must repeat everything twice.

This individual resides at the Cincinnati Zoo & Biological Garden. Observers stand on a platform raised about three feet above water level. The crane will stop by and peck at your toes. Sandals not recommended.

Hello Greg,

Now that is a pretty bird!
Excellent details in the plumage and the colours are very natural...
DoF spot on makes the bird stand out with a fine 3D feeling!

Hi Greg,
Great shot of this beautiful sandhill crane.
I love these birds! Every November we go to a Sandhill Crane Festival in Lodi, CA, not far from where we live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A wonderful POV and good sharpness.: )
TFS. : )
