|Osprey Dad bringing in a fish (flounder?) to the nest. |
This nest sits right over a busy road and beside a river, but the birds are very aware of anyone watching them. (Shooting from inside my car, I left after shooting this because he left with the fish after arriving and looking down on me. I could hear the hatchlings in the nest and Mom left right after him. Days are still pretty cool here in Maine and it was late in the day so I didn't want the chicks to get chilled and die with both parents nervously off the nest.
Looking back from a distant place, they returned after I left. I believe this is their first clutch as the nest was new in the fall of 2011 and no chicks hatched in 2012.
As and ex-exotic bird breeder (10 years) and 15 years photographing the behavioral habits of wild species, I highly urge all photographers and birders to not disturb nervous pairs at nest as it may cost the lives of their young (all species).

Interesting and natural bird-picture. The fish seems to be a great meal! Well done despite difficult light-conditions.
Excellent capture with good sharpness
