[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this shot at the end of winter of this year. I spotted this Northern Harrier on the ground in the fields surrounding a salt marsh. As I crept closer she suddenly flushed and I grabbed this shot. Fortunately for me she was looking back towards me as I pressed the shutter.

This is a female Northern Harrier, also known as Marsh Hawk.It is fairly easy to distinquish between the adult males and females as the female is brown and the male is a soft gray. Many times at quick glance people think they are seeing an owl because of the shape of the head and the markings on the face are so very owl-like. These lovely raptors spend their days floating low above the salt marshes hunting for frogs, snakes and small rodents.

I took this photo hand holding the camera and manual focus...lucky shot!

Magnifique photo de ce rapace en plein vol.
Bravo Lesley, belle photo !

Very nice Lesley, the luck has to go with you some time, this one is really nice and well seen.

Exercice très difficille de capturer un rapace en vol, c'est surtout la gestion de l'exposition qui pose problème sur un fond de ciel clair... bien réussi bravo !
